Sexual abusealso referred to as molestationis abusive sexual behavior by one person upon another. It is often perpetrated using force or by taking advantage of another. The offender is referred to as a sexual abuser or often pejoratively molester.
Females ages are 4 times more likely than the general population to be victims of rape, attempted rape, or sexual assault. More than high school students have already experienced some form of physical aggression from a dating partner. Physical abuse is the non-accidental physical trauma or injury inflicted by one individual on another. Injuries are often the result of, but not limited to, choking, punching, kicking, biting, burning, beating, or use of an object to inflict harm.
Only recently have researchers begun to consider the effects of this early trauma on subsequent physical health status. The current study sought to explore the relationship between a history of childhood sexual abuse in female adults and subsequent self-reported medical complaints. METHODS: This consecutive sample study used a questionnaire to distinguish subjects with a sexual abuse history and those without such a history.


People who were sexually abused in childhood often engage in abusive relationships as adults. They might repeatedly find themselves in adult relationships where they are victimized, physically, emotionally, or sexually. Some even become abusive themselves.
Many obstetrician-gynecologists knowingly or unknowingly provide care to abuse survivors and should screen all women for a history of such abuse. Depression, anxiety, and anger are the most commonly reported emotional responses to childhood sexual abuse. Gynecologic problems, including chronic pelvic pain, dyspareunia, vaginismus, nonspecific vaginitis, and gastrointestinal disorders are common diagnoses among survivors.
